AAAC  Australian Association of Agricultural Consultants
INTRODUCTION

The Australian Association of Agricultural Consultants (AAAC) is a Special Interest Group within the AIAST which represents the interests of professional agricultural and natural resource consultants in Australia.

AAAC Consultants and Advisers in agri-industry and allied natural resource areas are professionals who provide a high standard of advice and abide by a code of ethics. The Membership Committee of AAAC is responsible for assessing applications from consultants and recommending whether an application meets the requirements for membership or, in the case of less experienced consultants, provisional membership.  Consultants must be full members to be admitted to the Consultant's Register. It is also a requirement that AAAC members retain membership of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology.

AAAC provides members with professional support services including specialist training opportunities, regular seminars and conferences on technical and business issues. It also represents members to government and non-government bodies. Through the AAAC Consultant Register, clients are able to access the most suitable professional input for their particular situation.

50th Anniversary of the Agricultural Consulting Profession
To commenorate the 50th anniversary of the Agricultural Consulting Profession the AAAC held an event on Thursday 23 April 2009 at Rydges Lakeside, Canberra. This celebration focused on some past notable achievements of the agricultural consulting profession, but also look forward to how we might position ourselves in the future.

A highly successful 2010 Tasmanian AAAC event was held at Quamby Estate, Hagley, on Thursday 12 August 2010. The day of midwinter inspiration and networking was attended by over 150 agricultural consultants, farmers and industry people from all parts of the state.

Highlights of the morning talks included a thought provoking discussion on renewable energy by Hon Peter Rae AO, and some practical and entertaining farming and marketing presentations.

The afternoon activities include a farm bus tour, a hands-on learning session for GIS/GPS and precision agriculture, soil carbon workshop, decision-making workshop, rural garden design and a paddock-to-plate cooking class.

The Midwinter Gathering dinner was sponsored by Cradle Coast NRM and featured gourmet produce and wines from the Cradle Coast region.  Sincere thanks to the many people and organisations who donated their time to make this event possible.  A special thank you goes to Rachel Brown, the Tasmanian representative on the AAAC National Executive Committee, for the effort and time taken to ensure the success of this event. Particular thanks to our cash sponsors – NAB Agribusiness, Cradle Coast NRM and NRM North.

Consultant members are bound by rules of conduct established to protect the interests of clients and members of the profession and to maintain the highest standards of expertise and ethical standards. Full details of the Code of Ethics may be obtained from the Institute National Office.  The Code is supported by a set of detailed procedures and a Committee bound to respect the confidentiality of the matter and the interests of all parties to any dispute.

The Code effectively:

  • maintains the professional conduct of AAAC members who provide services for a fee;
  • protects the client from misconduct;
  • maintains a high standard of professional service;
  • creates a standard of excellence for agricultural consultancy;
  • and provides a means for clients to seek redress if there is reason to believe that services provided do not meet the required standards.
ACCREDITATION
Consultant Members of AAAC have maintained a level of professional competence by subscribing to CPAg - Certified Practising Agriculturalist offered by AIAST to those members who wish to have their commitment to professional development recognized.  It is anticipated that CPAg will be replaced by AgCredited -  a more rigorous third party accreditation scheme which will commence in January 2008.  For further details of AgCredited please refer to the Professional Development section of this website.
